Build success on success
Do you know it’s a sad fact that about 98% of people
fail within one month of making their resolutions. Only yesterday
someone was telling me that she had resolved to spend more
time reading quality books but had already reverted to just
aimlessly flicking the channels on the TV.
So what’s the answer?
I believe you have to build success on top of success and
create an environment that makes it much easier to succeed.
When you just try to change your behaviour but without changing
anything else it’s much more difficult because you are
relying on will power. Here’s a simple process I’ve
been using for several years and I can tell you it works.
Just ask yourself and write down the answers to the following
questions.
1) What did I achieve, and what were my most special moments
last year? Try to capture as many as possible.
2) What were my biggest challenges last year? What did I
hate doing and what were my biggest disappointments?
3) What did I learn that I can take into this year? What
do I want to repeat and what do I need to avoid?
4) Taking myself forward to the end of this year and looking
back what must have happened for me to feel totally happy
and satisfied with my year? Use your powers of visualisation
to really engage and imagine the outcomes you want. What does
success look, sound and feel like?
5) Create specific, written goals in each of your most important
life areas. Now just pick just a small number, say four, absolute
priority goals for 2006.
6) Get serious. It’s not about whether you can but
whether you will.
Create the right environment. Find and work with people
who already have the results you want. Get a coach. Avoid
negative people who will drag you down. Reward your successes
along the way because the behaviour you reward you want to
repeat.
