Do you have a vision?

While out in Spain recently I couldn’t help but notice the amount of building going on. One of the things that caught my eye was how stunning some of the developments are looking. Villas and apartments are being built on the mountainsides, creating attractive cascades that go down towards the sea. There are mixes of different colours, white, yellows, creams, beige’s, and even mauve! You can just imagine relaxing back in a soft chair, with good company, sipping a cool drink whilst watching the sun setting over the azure blue sea.

But at one time all these developments were just an idea. Someone’s idea of peace, of tranquillity and enjoying natural beauty. An idea of a place to spend time away from a busy life or in retirement after a busy life. An idea of somewhere to enjoy the company of friends and family.

After their initial idea came a vision. Before even the first brick was laid they had a clear idea of what the whole place would look like. In their minds eye they could see it. Then they would have begun to make a plan. The foundations would need to be solid. Time would be taken to create the right architecture. The buildings would need to look right, both individually and collectively. Every single detail would be considered and perfected until they were sure it was just right.

Then the logistics would be dealt with. What is the best and most effective way to bring the vision to reality? How could it be achieved on time, within budget and with minimal risk? So when the building itself commenced all the planning was done and it was just a case of execution. I’m sure that there were problems along the way but it didn’t stop things-they just dealt with them.

It would be unthinkable to go about such a project in any other way, wouldn’t it? Can you imagine what would happen if they just turned up with a bulldozer and a lorry load of building materials? It would be a disaster (as I’m sure there has been in the past and probably the subject of the next batch of ‘reality television shows, or have they already done those ones?).

So imagine if you were to treat your life with the same attitude? You knew exactly what you valued most, you had a vision of how it looked, you created a detailed plan of how to get it and then followed it through. Just how incredible, extraordinary and wonderful could it be?
